Pickleball court size and dimensions
By the PaddleBag team · Updated October 5, 2026
A pickleball court is small: 20 by 44 feet, about the size of a badminton doubles court. Here are the official dimensions in feet and meters, plus how much space you really need around it.
Court dimensions at a glance
- Full court: 20 × 44 ft (6.10 × 13.41 m), lines included.
- Each side: 20 × 22 ft (6.10 × 6.71 m).
- Kitchen (non-volley zone): 7 ft (2.13 m) deep on each side of the net.
- Service boxes: 10 × 15 ft (3.05 × 4.57 m), from the kitchen line to the baseline.
- Lines: 2 in (5 cm) wide, all the same color.
Net height
- 36 in (91.4 cm) at the sidelines.
- 34 in (86.4 cm) at the center.
- Net posts sit 12 in (30 cm) outside each sideline, 22 ft (6.71 m) apart.
How much space you need
The lines are only part of it. Players need room to move past the baseline and sidelines. The usual minimum total playing area is 30 × 60 ft (9.14 × 18.29 m), and 34 × 64 ft (10.36 × 19.51 m) is better for competitive play.
For indoor courts, aim for a high ceiling so lobs don't hit the roof.
Converting badminton, tennis, and basketball courts
- Badminton: same 20 × 44 ft outer size, so the outer lines match. You'll still need to mark the kitchen and center lines.
- Tennis: one tennis court can usually fit up to 4 pickleball courts with portable nets.
- Basketball: many covered courts in the Philippines are taped for 2 or more pickleball courts. It depends on the run-off space around each one.
Taped lines on shared courts are common, so lines may be faint or overlap with other sports. Agree with your group on which lines count before you play.
